Swimming Pool

A Proper Pool for Murray River Summers

When the mercury hits 40 and the Murray’s looking a bit brown from upstream runoff, you’ll be grateful there’s a pool. The outdoor pool at BIG4 Barham Holiday Parks is that reliable backup plan – clean, refreshing, and you don’t have to share it with carp.

Pool Hours and the Sunset Rule

The pool’s open from 9am to 8pm, or until sunset – whichever comes first. In summer that’s pretty generous. In autumn, sunset creeps earlier so the evening swim window shrinks a bit. No lifeguard on duty, so the usual rules apply: kids need supervision, no diving in the shallow end, and please shower off the sunscreen before jumping in.

Murray River Heat vs Pool Relief

Look, we’re not going to pretend the Murray region has mild summers. December through February regularly cracks 35 degrees, and when the hot northerlies blow through, 40-plus isn’t unusual. The pool becomes less of an optional extra and more of a survival mechanism.

It’s also just nice having somewhere the kids can burn off energy without you worrying about currents, snags or what’s lurking in the murky bits. The river’s brilliant for fishing and kayaking, but for actual swimming with small humans? The pool wins.

Families and the Pool Playground Setup

Some of our powered sites sit right around the pool and playground area, which is ideal if you’ve got young ones. You can set up camp, crack a cold drink, and actually see your kids from your chair. Revolutionary, really.

The grassy areas around the pool are good for towelling off and supervising, and the playground’s close enough that the kids transition naturally between the two without you having to pack up and relocate every twenty minutes.
